QURGHON TEPPA, February 9, Asia-Plus  — Khatlon to date has more than 1,1000 doctors’ vacancies, Fayzali Nazarov, head of the Khatlon Healthcare Administration, announced at a news conference in Qurghon Teppa on February 8.

According to him, 133 graduates of

were supposed to come to the province for working in local medical facilities last year.  “However, only 50 of them came,” said Nazarov, “Although hundreds people are annually finishing medical colleges, we also have needs in junior medical personnel.”

“The other problem facing health sector in the province is an obsolete equipment” Khatlon healthcare chief said, noting that today some 99 percent of medical personnel in the province are working with equipment produced in the Eighties last century.

According to him, medical facilities in four districts will be renovated and provided with up-to-date technologies this year.  “The Asian Development Bank will fund this project,” Fayzali Nazarov said, adding that experts from the ADB had selected Sarband, Norak as well as Baljuvon and Qubodiyon as pilot districts following survey to study living standards in these districts.
