DUSHANBE, April 30, 2010, Asia-Plus  – An annual anti-drug operation, dubbed Kuknor (Poppy), will start in Tajikistan on May 1.

The operation is aimed at discovering and destroying illicit plantations of narcotics-containing crops and plantations of wild hemp as well combating drug trafficking.

According to the Drug Control Agency (DCA), the operation will involve representatives from the ministries of interior, justice, health and culture, as well as the state committee for national security, border service and the counternarcotics agency.

The counternarcotics agency will coordinate the anti-drug operation, Kuknor-2010, that will run through October 30 this year.
