DUSHANBE, April 22, 2010, Asia-Plus — On April 21, the U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Ken Gross congratulated 22 members of Tajikistan”s Ministry of the Interior, State Committee on National Security, and Prosecutor General’s Office on completing a two-week Investigating Terrorist Incidents Course, according to the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe.

The United States Government contributed a total of $101,500 for the course.

The Investigating Terrorist Incidents Course is the third Anti-terrorism Assistance (ATA) course of 2010 sponsored by the U.S. Embassy”s Regional Security Office.  Since 2002, over 350 Tajik officials have participated in ATA-sponsored training activities at an estimated cost of over $6 million. Training programs take place in the United States and in Tajikistan.

Ambassador Gross remarked in his speech that the United States values its excellent relationship with the Government of Tajikistan and looks forward to continued cooperation and shared success.

Tajik law enforcement officers and prosecutors gained a greater understanding of the legal and internationally accepted methods of conducting interviews with terrorist suspects.  The course enhanced the ability of Tajik law enforcement officers to combat terrorism by successfully prosecuting terrorists in international and Tajik courts of law.

The Anti-terrorism Assistance Program was established in 1983 and is part of the Bureau of Diplomatic Security in the U.S. Department of State.  It is an essential U.S. Government mechanism which provides training, equipment, and technology to partner governments actively combating terrorism.

This investigation course is one of the many assistance projects the U.S. Embassy implements in Tajikistan on behalf of the American people.  Since 1993, the American people have provided more than $900 million in assistance programs that support the economic growth, democratic institutions, health care, education and security systems of Tajikistan.
