DUSHANBE, March 30, 2010, Asia-Plus — By president’s decree of March 29 Mr. Abdulafiz Azizov, Principal of Lyceum # 1 in Isfara, Mr. Matloubkhon Davlatov, Head of President’s Executive Office, Ms. Zhamila Kemzhequlova, Chairperson of Jamoat in GBAO’s Murgab District, Mr. Tirkash Qaraboyev, Chairman of the Yangiobod Farm in Khatlon’s Shahritus District, Mr. Ubaidullo Qurbonov, Chancellor of Tajik State Medical University, Ms. Zarrina Rajabova, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Business and Management at Tajik Technical University, Mr. Saydullo Khairulloyev, ex-Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), and Mr. Sadriddin Sharipov, General Manager of Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), were appointed members of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).
Three-fourths of the total number of members of the Majlisi Milli are elected at joint meetings of people’s deputies of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region and its towns and districts, regions and their towns and districts, Dushanbe city and its districts, towns and districts subordinate to the centre, on the basis of indirect elections by means of secret ballot. The Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, regions, Dushanbe City, towns and districts subordinate to the center have an equal number of representatives in the Majlisi Milli (five each). We will recall that elections to the Majlisi Milli were held on March 25.
One-fourths of the members of the Majlisi Milli are appointed by the President. Besides, each former President of the Republic of Tajikistan shall be the life member of the Majlisi Milli, if he doesn’t refuse to use this right and ex-President Qahhor Mahkamov is the life member of the upper house, bringing a total number of members of the Majlisi Milli to 34.
The first session of the Majlisi Milli of the fourth convocation is scheduled to take place in Dushanbe on April 23, 2010 and a joint session of the Majlisi Milli and the Majlisi Namoyandagon will be held here on April 24, 2010.
