DUSHANBE, March 17, 2010, Asia-Plus — The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to pay a short one-day visit to Tajikistan in April this year, the source at one of international organizations active in Tajikistan told Asia-Plus.
According to him, Mr. Ban is expected to visit Tajikistan on April 5.
During his stay in Dushanbe, the UN SG will hold talks with President Emomali Rahmon. The sides are expected to consider issues related to holding of an international conference on the medium-term comprehensive review of the International Decade for Action “Water for Life” that will take place in Dushanbe from June 8-10 this year and the present situation in Afghanistan as well as a number of other regional and international issues being of mutual interest, the source said.
We will recall that in his recent interview with Russia’s RIA Novosti, Mr. Ban noted that Russia has very important role to play in helping Afghan government to meet all this important policies including eradicating drugs. “And I”m going to discuss this matter with the Russian leadership and I”m also going to discuss it with the leaders of the Central Asian countries, who can also contribute to this” the UN secretary-general noted.
