DUSHANBE, January 30, 2010, Asia-Plus — By president’s decree an extraordinary session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) was convoked today, Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
However, he refrained from saying what issues would be considered at the extraordinary session of the upper house of the parliament.
In the meantime, under the country’s Constitution, the powers of the Majlisi Milli shall be: formation and abolition, and change of administrative-territorial units; the election and recall of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court upon the recommendation of the President; decide questions of the repeal of inviolability of the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court; giving consent to the appointment and relieving of the Procurator General and his deputies; the effectuation of other powers to be determined by the Constitution and by laws.
