KULOB, December 28, 2009, Asia-Plus — A court in the city of Kulob has given permission for the marriage of four underage girls this year, the Kulob court clerk Furqat Rahmatulloyev told reporters in Kulob today.
“The circumstances forced the court to make such decisions, though the girls have not yet reached the age of 16,” Rahmatulloyev said, noting that practically the same number of such marriages is being registered in the area every year.
According to the Kulob registry office, 2,199 marriages have been registered in the city and the district of Kulob over the first eleven months of this year and some 80 percent of women having married over the report are 17-18-year-old girls.
