It is impossible to resolve problems with Tajik-Kyrgyz border delineation at once, says Tajik expert

DUSHANBE

, February 28, Asia-Plus – it is impossible to resolve the problem with delimitation and demarcation of

Tajikistan

’s common border with

Kyrgyzstan

t once, especially as to take into consideration that it is 911 kilometers in length, Khurshed Dodikhudoyev, head of the foreign policy department within the

Tajik

Center

for Strategic Studies, said.

According to him, there are at least 70 disputable stretches on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border and

Tajikistan

and

Kyrgyzstan

should resolve the problem through constructive negotiations.  HE expressed hope that the issue of the border delineation between the two neighboring countries would be solved positively.

As it had been reported earlier, a session of the Tajik-Kyrgyz joint commission for delimitation and demarcation of common border opened in

Dushanbe

on February 27.   Deputy Tajik Foreign Minister, Salohiddin Nasreddinov, and Salamat Alamanov, head of the department for legal regulation of border issues within the Kyrgyz Prime Minister’s Office, are co-chairmen of the commission.  The session will last till March 2.

The Tajik-Kyrgyz joint commission for delimitation and demarcation of common border was established in 2003.
