DUSHANBE, November 18, 2009, Asia-Plus — Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding will repay its debts to open joint stock company (OJSC) Sangtudinskaya GES-1, which runs the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP), gradually in accordance with schedule that was coordinated with Sangtudinskaya GES-1, Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik, said in an interview the Asia-Plus.
He added that Barqi Tojik now owed more than 14.5 million U.S. dollars to Sangtudinskaya GES-1 for consumption of electricity generated by Sangtuda-1 HPP. Under the schedule, Barqi Tojik must pay off its debt to Sangtudinskaya GES-1 until March 31 2010.
“Barqi Tojik should remit 3 million U.S. dollars to the bank account of Sangtudinskaya GES-1 until November 30,” the spokesman said, noting Barqi Tojik would pay off its debt until March 31, 21010 without fail.
We will recall that the Sangtudinskaya GES-1 administration has warned Tajik authorities of possible interruption in generation of electricity by the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric plant (HPP) beginning on December 1 due to 28.3 million somoni in arrears that Barqi Tojik power holding owes to Sangtudinskaya GES-1. On November 13, the Sangtudinskaya GES-1 administration sent an official letter on this subject to Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov. The Sangtudinskaya GES-1 top manager Rakhmetuall Alzhanov told Asia-Plus on November 13 that as of November 12, Barqi Tojik owed 28.3 million somoni to them and the Tajik power holding’s debts might increase to more than 42 million somoni by November 30.
