KHUJAND, October 29, 2009, Asia-Plus — Bobojon Ikromov, editor-in-chief of Khujand-based independent weekly
Varorud
, is recognized the winner of the 2009 annual Developing Asia Journalism Awards (DAJA) competition in “Government responses to the global financial crisis” category.
The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) announced the 2009 annual DAJA competition in May this year and journalists from developing Asia and the Pacific were invited to submit published articles written in 2008 or 2009.
The subject matter of the articles had to be in line with one of the following four categories: poverty impact of the global financial crisis; government responses to the global financial crisis; infrastructure development; and climate change adaptation.
According to Ikromov, an international panel of judges selected the 20 best articles and 22 journalists then were invited to ADBI in Tokyo for a three-day training program running there this month.
The training program provided an opportunity for participants to discuss and debate the above four issues with leading experts.
An article by Ikromov entitled “Financial Crisis in Tajikistan” that was published in
Varorud
in December 2008 took the first place in the “Government responses to the global financial crisis” category.
“The award ceremony for the winners of the competition was held at the Department of Journalists of Japan with participation of ambassadors of the countries whose representatives became winners of the competition,” Ikromov said.
