Tajik officer gets jail term of five years for drug pushing

KHUJAND, September 29, 2009, Asia-Plus — Officer of one of military units deployed in the Sughd province has got long jail term for involvement in drug trafficking.

The Khujand military court today completed consideration of criminal proceedings instituted against Captain Rustam Odinayev, an officer of one of military units deployed in the area, and Temour Abdulvahhobov, the resident of the village of Oqteppa in Suhgd’s Spitamen district.

The court ruled that Captain Odinayev be given a jail term of five years and Abdulvahhobov be given the jail term of eight years and that they will serve them in a high-security penal colony.  The sentence followed their conviction on the charge of drug trafficking.

The source at the Khujand military court told Asia-Plus that Odinayev and Abdulvahhobov were arrested by security officers on July 11 this year while trying to push one kilogram of heroin.
