DUSHANBE, May 28, Asia-Plus — The 35th session of the CIS Electric Power Council will be held in the Azeri capital Baku tomorrow.

According to the Council’s press service, the session will discuss the outcomes of work of national power systems in autumn-winter 2008-09 and issues related to implementation of the agreement on ensuring parallel work of power systems of the CIS states, development of draft feasibility study for synchronic unification of power systems of CIS and Baltic nations with the European UCTE, joint report of the CIS Electric Power Council and EUROELECTRIC on monitoring roadmap on the key ecological issues of unification of electric power markets of the European Union and CIS for 2008.

The meeting participants will also discuss development of the concept of energy cooperation among the CIS states and the plan of events for implementation of this concept and development of the pilot project for implementation of technology of distribution estimates and planning of power system work regimes.

Besides, the session will consider a number of draft documents such as draft protocol on stages of formation of common electric power market, draft agreement on cooperation in operating interstate power grids of national power systems, the CIS Economic Council’s resolutions on “The Situation in the Hydropower of the Republic of Tajikistan” and the strategy of interaction between the CIS states in the field of electrical power, the press service said.

The Electric Power Council of the CIS and its working body – the Executive Committee were set up under the Agreement on Coordination of Interstate Relations in the Field of Electric Power Engineering of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) signed by the CIS heads of government on February 14, 1992.  The top officials of energy management bodies of the CIS as well as the Chairman of the Executive Committee are the members of the CIS Electric Power Council.

The main goal of the CIS Electric Power Council activity is in organizing joint and coordinated actions aimed at providing sustainable and secure energy supply of the economy and the population of the CIS states based on efficient operation of integrated electric power systems of the CIS.
