DUSHANBE, May 19, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) is currently considering feasibility studies for construction of the Nourobod-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and new heat and power station in Dushanbe conducted by China’s Tebian Electric Apparatus Stock Co., Ltd. (TBEA).

The source at a MoEI noted, “If the ministry approves the feasibility studies, they will be sent for consideration to the government, if not, they will be returned for improvement.”

As it had been reported earlier, the MoEI and China’s TBEA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation in Dushanbe on February 20 this year.  Under the memorandum, the Chinese company will construct a 200-MW heat and power station in Dushanbe that will run on coal and a 200-MW hydropower plant Nourobod-1 on the Khingob River in eastern Tajikistan as well as rehabilitate a transformer-producing plant in Qurghon Teppa.

The Chinese side will implement these projects in exchange for one of Tajik deposits.  “The Tajik side has already offered the Chinese company a number of deposits for exploration and development and they are currently choosing the deposit they will develop,” the source said.
