Kulob, May 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — By May 4, farmers in five-cotton growing districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region have planted cotton on 24,000 hectares, which is 71 percent of the planted area for this year, Abdullo Rajabov, a leading specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, told Asia-Plus today.
According to him, ongoing torrential rain has seriously affected to the cotton-sowing campaign in the region. Many cotton-growing farms have been forced to suspend the cotton-sowing campaign for several days because of bad weather conditions and some other farms have been forced to re-sow cotton in some fields, the specialist said.
“In all, farmers will have to re-sow cotton on totaling 344 hectares,” Rajabov said.
