DUSHANBE, July 22, Asia-Plus  — Under the country’s legislation, the powers of Husein Aliyev as deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) terminate in connection with appointment of him as chairman of Tojikobod district, a source at the Central Committee for Elections and Referenda (CCER) said.

Since Husein Aliyev was elected to the Majlisi Namoyandagon through the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) list and no by-election will be held, the next PDP candidate who follows Husein Aliyev on party list will replace Aliyev in parliament.

“Deputy Education Minister Ashourbek Rasoulov follows Husein Aliyev on the party list, and therefore, he will replace Husein Aliyev in the lower chamber of parliament,” the source said.

The Majlisi Namoyandagon — the lower chamber of parliament — consists of 63 deputies elected for a five-year term.  Twenty-two seats are divided among parties that gain more than 5 percent of the vote, and the remaining 41 deputies are elected from single-mandate constituencies.

The People”s Democratic Party of Tajikistan reportedly controls some 80 percent of the seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon.
