DUSHANBE, August 8, 2011, Asia-Plus — For the first time in its history the Dushanbe Transplant Center is planning to transplant liver in September this year. Following this transplantation such operations will become regular.

According to the center’s transplant surgeon Dr. Faizali Mavlonov, such operations will be mainly available to people suffering from such diseases as liver cirrhosis and hepatitis D.

He said that the center has all required equipment for such operations. Experts who passed special courses in Moscow are ready to work.

Since April this year the center has conducted 14 kidney transplant operations. According to the agreement, there is a principal rule on transplantation of kidneys and liver which says that donor organs should be provided by relatives only and only with their consent.

Mavlanov has also said that the center is planning to open transplant centers in different regions of the country. This issue was discussed at a recent Tajik Health Ministry’s collegiums and it was decided to start set up such centers in September this year.

Almost 90% of the population are not aware of such center and regional centers will let people to get timely medical aid.

“As for the price for liver transplant operation, according to Tajik Health Ministry’s price list it will cost 49.000 Somoni. However, nobody paid such money yet. At the moment the center establishes mutually beneficial relations with its patients,” Mavlanov has said.
