DUSHANBE, December 1, Asia-Plus  — A meeting of the executive committee of the organization of the ruling People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT) for Sughd province, presided  over by the PDPT deputy chairman Asror Latipov, has been held in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province recently.

Usmon Solehov, head of the PDPT public relations department, told Asia-Plus Thursday afternoon that Ms. Bibikhon Azizova has been relieved of her post of chairperson of the PDPT organization for Sughd.  According to him, she resigned voluntarily.

“Mr. Davron Zohidov, formerly an employee of President’s Executive Office, has been elected new chairperson of the PDPT organization for Sughd with the advice and consent of President Emomali Rahmon, who is leader of the PDPT,” Solehov said.  

Founded in 1994, the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan is the biggest political party in Tajikistan.  Its chairman is President Emomali Rahmon.  It is the largest party, boasting more than 150,000 registered members.  The official newspaper of the party is

The party controls some 70 percent of seats in the lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of the parliament and the overwhelming majority of members of local councils are members of the ruling party.
