DUSHANBE, January 19, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s gold and currency reserves rose 20.8 percent in a year to December 31, 2011, reaching 801.6 million U.S. dollars, Ms. Malohat Kholiqzoda, the deputy head of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), told reporters in Dushanbe on January 19.

In 2010, the country’s gold and currency reserves amounted to 66.5 million U.S. dollars, she noted.

On the country’s money supply (the total amount of money available in the economy), Malohat Kholiqzoda said that Tajikistan’s money supply rose 28 percent in a year to December 31, 2011, reaching 3.8 billion somoni.    

In 2011, 1.2 billion somoni of new banknotes were put into circulation and 456.3 million somoni of dilapidated banknotes were immobilized.
