DUSHANBE, December 10, 2008, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan intends to double the quota for Iranian nationals for studying at Tajik universities, according to press service of the Ministry of Education (MoE).
This issue was discussed during a meeting of Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov with Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Ali-Asghar Sherdoust.
At request of the Iranian ambassador, the minister charged relevant persons to consider the possibility of increasing the number of studying permits for Iranian nationals from 10 to 20, the press service said.
During the meeting, it was noted that the annual number of studying permits for Tajik nationals at Iranian universities is now 50.
In the course of the talks, the two discussed state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran in the field of education and Mr. Sherdoust touched upon the issue of acceleration of the process of publishing textbooks and children’s books, funds for which had been provided by the Iranian Ministry of Education.
They also discussed issues related to the upcoming working visit of the Tajik education minister to Iran scheduled for the second half of December.
During his three-day visit to Iran, Rahmonov is planned to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Farshidid and Science Minister Mehdi Zahedi, the source said. The talks are expected to result in signing of a number of cooperation documents.
