DUSHANBE, December 5, 2008, Asia-Plus — The third forum of national media of the CIS and Baltic countries formally titled “Media and Humanitarian Potential of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)” that was held in Moscow on December 1-3 ended with adoption of a resolution that was released by the CIS International Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation today.
The resolution, in particular, underlines the importance of development of a common humanitarian space of the CIS states, noting that humanitarian cooperation is a backbone factor contributing to further development of the CIS and renewal and growth of scientific, educational, cultural and informational potentials of the CIS member nations.
The document also notes that media could play a significant role in supporting those positive processes and consolidation of a journalistic community will promote establishment of international and intercultural mutual understanding.
Noting that many issues of establishment of humanitarian cooperation are new for the CIS states, the forum participants stressed that “humanitarian priorities should be generated through media.”
Journalist also recommended harmonizing information laws of the CIS states and setting up the public council (association) of experts in media issues that would consist of influential representatives of journalistic community from all the CIS member states.
As humanitarian-oriented network structure, the council will coordinate cooperation in the field of exchange of information and support integrated cultural-educational initiative through using media resources of the CIS states, solve pressing professional problems and withstand forces wanting to make press instrument for achievement of their political interests, the resolution said.
As it had been reported earlier, Tajikistan was represented by Poulod Nourov, executive secretary of Tajik Journalists’ Union, Umed Babakhanov, director general of the limited liability company Asia-Plus, and some other media editors at the forum that was staged by Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti in association with the International Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation.
In all, representatives of media organizations of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Estonia, as well as leading members of expert-analytical community of the CIS countries were invited to the forum, which is staged by Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti in association with the International Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation.
The main objective of the forum was in consolidating efforts of journalistic community to turn the CIS information area into an effective tool of cooperation and its participants are expected to develop model of stable information partnership.
The first forum of media of the CIS and Baltic nations was held in Moscow in December 2006.
