Tajikistan and Afghanistan continue their talks regarding the increased energy supplies from Tajikistan to IRA, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik energy holding company Nozirjon Edgori told the AP.

He said it’s too early to talk about the increase in energy supply to Afghanistan since the company’s priority is to ensure non-stop energy supply inside the country.

Furthermore, he said there is an ongoing collection of water for reservoir of the country’s biggest Nurek hydropower plant, which produces around 70% of the total volume of energy in the country.

“To cover the internal demand in electricity and increase the volume of energy supplies to Afghanistan, we need to fill up the Nurek reservoir first. Currently we need to fill up 53 meters of the reservoir with water (editor’s note: the difference between normal water level (910m) and dead level (857m),” he said.

According to the company, current water inflow from Vakhsh River to reservoir exceeds 700 cubic meters per second.

Talking about current energy supplies to Afghanistan, Mr.Edgori said that currently the company supplies 20MWt. He added that this volume is used to protect the power line from plundering.
