DUSHANBE, July 5, 2012, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has a number of proposals regarding sustainable development of cooperation between countries participating in the Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi remarked this on July 5 while delivering a statement at the plenary session of the 6th Korea-Central Asia Cooperation in Seoul, Korea.

Tajik minister noted that hydropower sphere “is one of topical issues in the region.”  Zarifi noted that Tajikistan is rich in the reserves of water and power resources “and its future depends on efficient and rational use of this type of energy.”

“Under adequate cooperation, Tajikistan’s power export potential could reach 30 billion kWh/h of electrical power by 2020 that would promote development of “green economy” in the country,” Zarifi noted.

Tajik minister also said that Tajikistan was concerned over unfavorable environmental situation that emerged in the region “and considers that the only alternative solution to pressing problems facing the region is introduction of “green technologies.”

The 6th Korea-Central Asia Cooperation has reportedly discussed issues related to further strengthening of interaction in various spheres.

The Tajik delegation members participating in the forum include representatives from the ministries of foreign affairs, energy and industries, and health.

The forum was created in 2007 to bring together representatives of foreign and trade ministries and private business and education, science and technology from South Korea and the five Central Asian nations.
