Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov started his official visit to the Austrian Republic on 17 November. The Turkmen president arrived in the international airport Vienna Shvehat from Munich. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was met by the Chief of Austrian Foreign Ministry”s Protocol Department, Melita Shubert, and other officials. From the airport the president of Turkmenistan headed for his residence in the luxury hotel “Imperial”.

The current visit to Austria is another evidence of mutual interest and readiness of Austria and Turkmenistan to speed up cooperation not only at the bilateral but also multilateral level.

As of 1 November 2008, Turkmenistan has registered 21 projects with participation of Austrian companies, the official report says. These projects are worth US $ 203 million, Euro 0,43 million and German Mark 1,7 million. In total, there are now 13 enterprises in Turkmenistan with participation of Austrian capital, four of them are legal entities. The bulk of projects are being implemented in the oil and gas sphere, agriculture, printing, trade, healthcare and other spheres.
