Number of mobile subscribers in Uzbekistan reached 11.595 million on November 1 2008, the State Commission on Radio Frequencies of Uzbekistan under the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information said on Monday, November 17.

The commission said the number of users increased by 713,000 in October.

As earlier reported, number of mobile users in Uzbekistan was 5.888 million in beginning of the year. It means that the number of mobile subscribers almost doubled this year, reported Uzreport.

It is expected that the mobile subscribers” number could reach 12-13 million by the end of the year if current pace of growth kept.

Currently, five mobile operators work in Uzbekistan, including MTS-Uzbekistan (Unzdunrobota, GSM standard), Beeline (Unitel, GSM standard), Ucell (Coscom, GSM standard), Perfectum Mobile (Rubicon Wireless Communication, CDMA standard) and Uzbektelecom Mobile (CDMA standard).
