IFC to conduct conference on credit information exchange in Dushanbe on November 10

DUSHANBE, November 4, 2008, Asia-Plus  — IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, with the support of State Committee for Investment and State-owned Property Management will conduct a conference on “Credit information exchange – improved access to finance in Tajikistan” in Dushanbe on November 10.

According to the IFC Dushanbe Office, the conference will be held within the framework of the IFC Azerbaijan and Central Asia Leasing Facility Project.

The purpose of the conference is to discuss issues relevant to the creation of an effective legislation environment for the development of credit bureaus in Tajikistan, to show the advantage of credit bureaus to participants and to encourage participant to take an active part in the creation of credit bureaus.

The following questions will be addressed:

What is the benefit of establishing credit bureaus in Tajikistan?

What are the best legislative practices and the most important issues which should be reflected in legislation regulating exchange of credit information?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the process of licensing, supervision and regulation of credit bureaus’ activity?

The conference will be moderated by Natalia Mylenko, IFC Global Credit Bureau Program Regional Credit Bureau and Risk Management Advisor.

“Credit Bureau is one of the most important elements of financial infrastructure, which allows increasing access to financial resources and reducing the risk of credit operations. We hope that, as a result of this event, IFC and conference participants can jointly develop main points to be included in the draft law “About Credit Histories,”   said Zarina Odinaeva, IFC Azerbaijan and Central Asia Leasing Facility Project’s Country Officer for Tajikistan.

This project is supported with funds from SECO.

SECO also represents Switzerland in the large multilateral trade organizations and international negotiations, and is involved in efforts to reduce poverty and help developing countries with transition economies build sustainable democratic societies and viable market economies. Each year, Switzerland spends about 1.9 billion francs on development cooperation and transition assistance to countries.
