DUSHANBE, November 4, 2008, Asia-Plus  — By government’s resolution Abdumajid Usmonov, formerly deputy director of the TV channel Safina, has been appointed to head the first Tajik TV news channel, Jahonnamo, according to presidential press service.  

The national TV news channel, Jahonnamo, is expected to go on air on November 5.  The news is expected to broadcast round-the-clock and at first, it will cover some 60 percent of the country’s territory.

According to senior representatives of the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, more than US$320,000 worth of equipment has been purchased for the TV news channel.
