Four die of dog bites in northern Tajikistan this year

KHUJAND, November 4, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Since the beginning of this year, four people have died of dog bites in the Sughd province, Asia-Plus has learned from Karimullo Safarov, the head of the general supervision department within the Sughd prosecutor’s office.  

According to him, official survey determined there had been 4,765 animal bite victims in the province over the first nine months of this year.  Of them, 3,178 were victims of dog bites, 124 were bitten by cats, 146 by rats, etc.   

Over the report period, more than 2,500 patients have been vaccinated against rabies, the prosecutor said.
