Tajikistan reaches 63.5 percent of 2008 cotton target

DUSHANBE, November 4, 2008, Asia-Plus  – Cotton growers in Khatlon’s Sarband district have fulfilled this year’s cotton target, having yielded 2,317 tons of cotton by November 3, which is over 100 percent of the target that has been determined at 2,300 tons, Narzullo Dadaboyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), said.  

In all, the Khatlon province has yielded some 244,000 tons of cotton by November 3, which is 73.2 percent of their target.  Khatlon province has pledged to produce 331,900 tons of cotton this year.

The cotton-growing farms in the northern Sughd province have yielded more than 83,500 tons of cotton, which is 48.7 percent of the target.  Their target is 172,100 tons of cotton.      

Districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) have yielded more than 23,600 tons of cotton so far, which is 48.9 percent of their target determined at 48,500 of raw cotton.

The republic has yielded 360,588 tons of cotton by November 3, which comprises 63.5 percent of this year’s target.   The national target for this year has been determined at 552,200 tons, the spokesman said.
