DUSHANBE, November 13, 2012, Asia-Plus  — A special operation carried out by officers from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) in Khatlon province has reportedly led to the seizure of a large amount of narcotics.

According to the SCNS press center, an Afghan national and Tajik law enforcement officer were detained in the operation that was carried out in the Qumsangir district.  Five kilograms of heroin and four kilograms of hashish were confiscated from them.

“When searching an apartment of the detained law enforcement officer in Dushanbe, the SCNS officers found another five kilograms of heroin,” the source added.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the alleged drug peddlers and an investigation is under way.

Meanwhile, an operation carried out by the SCNS officers at the Dushanbe airport led to the arrest of Dushanbe resident Mohammad Mamadaminov, 35, who was going to transport some one kilogram of heroin to Moscow.

Since the beginning of this year, the SCNS officers have reportedly seized more than 2,280 kilograms of narcotics.
