DUSHANBE

, February 15, Asia-Plus – The lower house of the Tajik parliament has ratified an agreement on interaction between border troops of member nations of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) in case of arising of crisis situations on external borders.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (

Tajikistan

’s lower chamber of parliament) presided over by its chairman, Saydullo Khairulloyev, was held on February 15.

Chairman of State Committee for Protection of State Borders of Tajikistan, Saydamir Zuhurov, presenting the document said that it was signed in 1996 and had already been ratified by other member nations of the Community, except

Uzbekistan

that joined the Community recently.

“As far as

Tajikistan

is concerned, delays in ratifying the agreement have been connected with a process of transfer by Russian border troops of

Tajikistan

’s common border with

China

and

Afghanistan

to jurisdiction of Tajik border service,” Saydamir Zuhurov said.

Commenting on this document, the Tajik border service chief noted that in case if any crisis situation arises on external borders of member nations of the Community other signatories to the agreement are ready to send their troops there to provide support.
