After the meeting with Rahmonov, Canadian diplomat told journalists that during the meeting they had discussed state and prospects of cooperation between Canada and Tajikistan.  According to her, they also considered further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the area of mining, technologies and economics, as well as hydropower.  Canadian diplomat noted that Canada appreciates Tajikistan’s support for Canada in providing assistance to Afghanistan.

Asked about concrete plans of cooperation between Canada and Tajikistan, Canadian diplomat noted that Canada has a large government agency for hydropower.  “We have offered President Rahmonov to organize a meeting with Canada’s hydropower companies to discuss more concrete aspects and opportunities for cooperation,” she said, noting that Canadian hydropower companies are working in a long-term format.

On the cooperation in the field of demining activity, Margaret Scokk noted that Canada realizes significance of this process and added that Canada had earlier provided $800,000 to the Tajik Mine Action Cell.  She expressed confidence that cooperation in this field will continue.  According to her, an exhibition of achievements of Canada in landmine-clearance activity will e held in the Kazakh city of Almaty in March.  “I hope this exhibition will promote further expansion of cooperation in this sphere,” she said.
