DUSHANBE, February 27, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has lodged an application for participation in a competition for CIS Award 2006/2007, which presented for achievement in the area of quality of products and services, according to Tajikistan’s Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Trade Inspection (ASMTI).

The source at an ASMTI said that Khujand-based cellular operator Somoncom is representing the country in the competition.  

Six other CIS states have also lodged applications for participating in this competition.  “Somoncom will compete for the award with more than 30 enterprises from Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine,” the source said.  

The competition for the CIS award in the area of quality of products and services is held once in two years.  The main objective of this competition is in supporting national initiatives aimed at a raising quality and competitiveness of products or services offered by CIS states, as well as improving export opportunities of organizations from CIS states, and introducing efficient methods of the quality management.
