DUSHANBE, May 18, Asia-Plus – Australian Ambassador to Tajikistan Robert James Tyson today presented credentials to President Emomali Rahmon.

According to presidential press service, a state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Australia were discussed during a meeting following the credentials-presenting ceremony. 

After the meeting with President Rahmon, Australian Ambassador told journalists that sectors like agriculture, hydropower, education and tourism are areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.   

Ambassador Tyson noted that Australia as country with developed agrarian sector would like to have active cooperation with Tajikistan in sectors such as cattle breeding, etc.  

He also attached significance to bilateral cooperation between Australia and Tajikistan in the field of education.  “Dushanbe is one of important cultural centers in the region with old history and rich traditions, therefore, it would be good to provide student exchange programs between out countries,” Mr. Tyson said.  

Besides, mutual development of tourism is also of significant importance, according to him.  “Both countries have many interesting sights, but for this, it is necessary to increase, first of all, a volume of information about each other,” said Australian diplomat, “Although there is no yet direct aerial communication between our countries, people may fly via Dubai, for example.”  

According to him, the also discussed international and regional issues being of mutual interest.
