DUSHANBE, December 6, Asia-Plus  — Russia is interested in direct participation in implementation of the Roghun hydroelectricity project, visiting head of Russia’s Chamber of Accounts Sergey Stepashin told journalists Wednesday.  

“If the Roghun hydroelectric power station (HPS) is built, Tajikistan will undoubtedly become Central Asia’s largest supplier of electrical power,” Stepashin said.    

            Stepashin, who arrived in Tajikistan Tuesday evening for a three-day working visit, is scheduled to meet with President Emomali Rahmon today. 

The aim of his visit to Tajikistan is to get acquainted with a progress of construction of the station, the first unit of which is scheduled to be put into introduction on December 21.

Besides, he will attend a joint board meeting of Russia’s Chamber of Accounts and Tajikistan’s Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption that will be held in Dushanbe today and hold talks with senior representatives from the Tajik anticorruption agency. The board meeting is expected to result in of an agreement on cooperation between the agencies of the two countries.
