DUSHANBE, December 26, Asia-Plus  — The head building of the Tajik Medical university, situated in the center of Dushanbe, has been burning for already four hours.   

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), 13 firefighting crews of the MoI main firefighting directorate as well as fire engines and water-carrying vehicles of Russian military base and the committee for emergency situations have been involved in extinguishing the fire. 

“All three floors of the building have been completely enveloped in flames and the building that was constructed in 1939 practically burnt down,“ the source said.   

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to unofficial sources, electrical malfunction my have caused the fire, which was first reports about 1:33 p.m..  The fire probably brought out in a room on the third floor that housed the University’s reading hall.  The fire then spread rapidly through the building. 

No injured was reported, according to the source.
