KHOROG, April 3, Asia-Plus  — The Public Council of Gorno Badakhshan has voted against holding of a possible rally planned by the Social-democratic Party (SDPT) for April 8.

An enlarged meeting of the GBAO Regional Public Council, held on April 2, brought together more than 320 representatives of political parties, public associations, government bodies and media from Khorog and GBAO’s districts.

The meeting along with issues related to the present socioeconomic situation in the region also discussed the planned rally being organized by SDPT.

The meeting participants, except Alim Sherzamonov, the head of the SDPT organization in GBAO, and Muhammadrizo Sabzali, the deputy head of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) organization in the region, voted against holding of the SDPT rally in Khorog.

The GBAO governor Qodir Qosim noted that the meeting participants had not given consent to holding of the rally as implications of SDPT members are unfounded.  “Full responsibility for consequences of unauthorized rally will rest with SDPT,” the governor said, calling on the SDPT members for constructive dialogue.
