DUSHANBE, April 3, Asia-Plus  — The Government of India remitted US$1 million to the bank account, opened by the Government of Tajikistan for funds to mitigate effects of last winter, in late March, Asia-Plus has learned at the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe.

The next bulk of the assistance in an amount of US$1 million will be delivered to the country in the near future.  The assistance includes medicine, blankets, warm clothes, generators and other necessary relief supplies.

As it had been reported earlier, India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on March 4 announced a package of aid for Tajikistan, worth $2 million to address the urgent humanitarian needs of Tajik people.  It was noted that $1 million of this sum is provided in cash assistance and the rest part will be provided in form of medicine, warm clothes, generators and other essential equipment.
