VARZOB, June 11, Asia-Plus — The board of Tajikistan’s Soyuz-Chernobyl (association of former Chernobyl cleanup workers) held a meeting in the Varzob district yesterday to discuss problems facing former Chernobyl cleanup workers living in Tajikistan.
The meeting participants included 45 heads of city and district associations of former Chernobyl cleanup workers from all regions of the country.
During the meeting, it was noted that 2,200 former Chernobyl cleanup workers, 2,800 disabled children of them and 200 widows of the Chernobyl cleanup workers currently live in the country
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Tajikistan’s Soyuz-Chernobyl head Faridoun Hakimov appreciated support of the Varzob chairwoman Sanovabr Sherova and Dushanbe’s Shohmansour district chairman Fathullo Bouriyev for organization of the meeting.
According to him, the Shohmansour district has provided abandoned warehouse of guest house Poytakht for their organization and they intend to establish their office in the warehouse.
He also noted that the government had provided 32 seats for their children to study at Tajik universities.
