DUSHANBE, June 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The 39-year-old resident of Dushanbe, Akram Safarov, has been detained in Khatlon’s Rumi district on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing.  

According to press service of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), an operation carried out by officers from the Rumi police directorate in the district yesterday led to the arrest of the Dushanbe resident Akram Safarov.  Some 2.5 kilograms of raw opium were found in his car.  

The preliminary investigation has established that Safarov arrived in the Khatlon province for purchasing drugs with further pushing them in Dushanbe, the press service said.  

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Safarov on drug-trafficking charges and an investigation is under way.
