DUSHANBE, October 15, 2008, Asia-Plus — The Tajik national TV channel, Safina, is going to make a documentary entitled “Tajikistan” that would tell history, culture and traditions of the Tajik people, the Safina director Mahmadsaid Pirov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the channel has already announced an appropriate competition among filmmakers.  The creative group may consist both of filmmakers working in the country and our fellow-countrymen working s filmmakers abroad, the director said.

“The documentary should be shot at international level in order we could demonstrate it abroad as a “calling card” for Tajikistan,” Pirov said, noting that no film that could present Tajikistan at proper level has been made in the country over the past 17 years.

He further added that he had submitted that project for consideration to some foreign donors and French TV channel, W-TVN, had shown interest and “is ready to pay 50 percent of the project cost.”
