DUSHANBE, October 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — World financial crisis has not affected activity of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) and Tajikistan’s economy as whole, the Amonatbonk head Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov remarked at a press conference in Dushanbe on October 14.

According to him, the main guarantee of stability of the domestic market is the fact that “our national financial institutions do not have close relations with financial systems of the Western countries.”

“We receive funds from international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Asian Development Bank and some others, which have not been affected by the crisis,” said Mahmadaminov, “These banks are considered to be strong and sustainable institutions, you know.”

He noted that the world financial crisis might affect banks having external debts.  Amonatbonk does not have debts to its foreign partners, the Amonatbonk head added.

“Negative impact could result from low receipt of funds from our foreign customers threatened by the financial crisis,” said Mahmadaminov, “In our case, it turned out quite the contrary; over the past several months, the number of our foreign customers has doubled.”
