KULOB, November 11, 2008, Asia-Plus– As of November 1 2008, cotton farmers in Khatlon’s Farkhor district have repaid 1.3 million somoni to Agroinvestbonk’s branch in Farkhor, which is more than 30 percent of loans received from the bank, Sayfiddin Qadamov, the head of Agroinvestbonk’s branch in Kulob, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, 4.2 million somoni in loans have been provided to cotton farmers via the bank’s branch in Farkhor.  “There is no doubt that the Farkhor cotton farmers will repay their loans without any problems,” Qadamov said.

In all, Agroinvestbonk has provided 15.947 million somoni in loans to cotton-growing farms in four districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region.  “More than 2.5 million somoni have been repaid so far,” he said.

However, problems may occur with loan recipients in the Hamadoni district, which has reached little more than 44 percent of this year’s cotton target.  “Cotton-growing farms in this district have received more than 4 million somoni in loans from our bank, while they have repaid only 550,000 somoni so far,” the head of Agroinvestbonk’s branch in Kulob said.
