DUSHANBE, February 19, 2009, Asia-Plus — Specialists from the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics expect Tajikistan’s consume prices to rise 15 percent in the year to December 31, 2009.
According to the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics, the highest inflation rate is expected to be reported in Azerbaijan and Ukraine – 18 percent. In Kyrgyzstan, inflation for 2009 is expected to stand at 13 percent, Russia, Belarus, and Uzbekistan – 11 percent, Moldova and Kazakhstan – 10 percent.
The lowest inflation rate is expected to be reported in Armenia – 6 to 7 percent.
An average inflation rate within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for 2009 is expected to stand at 11 to 12 percent.
The CIS Interstate for Statistics has also released data on gross domestic product (GDP) growth during this year. GDP within the CIS is expected to rise 5 to 6 percent in average in the year to December 31, 2009.
In Tajikistan, GDP is expected to rise some 7 percent in the year to December 31, 2009.
The highest GDP rate is supposed to be reported in Azerbaijan (13-15%) and Belarus (9-10%). In Russia and Kyrgyzstan, GDP is expected to rise 6 percent, Moldova – 5 to 6 percent, and Kazakhstan and Ukraine – 5 percent.
In the meantime, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects real GDP growth in Tajikistan to slow to 3 percent in 2009 and inflation should stabilize at around the level of 12-13 percent.
Tajik government expects GDP to rise some 7.1 percent this year and inflation to stand at not more than 13 percent.
