KULOB, July 14, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The first group of veterans of the Afghan war of 19791988 from Khatlon’s Kulob region, numbering 13 persons, are participating in construction of a hotel in the settlement of Krasnaya Polyana in Russia’s Krasnodar region, which is one of facilities of the future 2014 Winter Olympics (officially known as XXII Olympic Winter Games) that will be held in Sochi.

Chairman of the Kulob Association of Veterans of the Afghan War of 1978-1988, Rustam Abduqayumov, told Asia-Plus by phone from Krasnaya Polyana that some 30 Afghan war veterans from Kulob would participate in construction of a 30-story hotel.

According to him, more than 1,000 Tajik nationals currently work at various construction sites in Sochi.
