KHUJAND, July 15, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Over the first six months of this year, police of a number of CIS states have detained 37 wanted residents of Sughd province, the Sughd police directorate chief Rauf Yusupov announced at a press conference in Khujand on July 14.

According to him, three of them have already been transported to the country and Tajik law enforcement authorities are taking measure on extradition of the remaining 34 criminals.

“Another resident of Sughd, Idris Sattorov, who is wanted for having contacts with the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), was detained in Kazakhstan several days ago,” Yusupov said.

Speaking to reports, the head of the criminal investigation department, Zikriyo Abduazizov, said that four criminals wanted by police in their countries have been detained in northern Tajikistan since the beginning of the year.

“Over the report period, 20 residents of Sughd have been detained in other countries for different crimes,” Abduazizov said.
