DUSHANBE, October 15, 2009, Asia-Plus — In September 2009, 250 industrial enterprises, or more than 31 percent of the overall number (802), were not in operation, while the majority of others operated at only 40%-50% of their capacity, the head of the State Committee for Statistics Mirgand Shabozov remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 15.
According to him, 448 enterprises (55.9 percent) have exceeded the January-September 2009 level.
“Over the first nine months of this year, the country has produced a total of 4.25 billion somoni (equivalent to little more than 968 million U.S. dollars) worth of industrial goods,” said Shabozov, “Compared to the same period of last year, the index of the volume of production of industrial goods amounted to 90 percent.”
He, in particular, noted that the fuel-energy sector has produced 661.8 million somoni worth of output over the same nine-month period, which was 3.3 percent fewer than in the same period of last year.
Compared to January-September 2008, electricity production has decreased by 91 million kWh, production of heating has decreased by 117,000 gigacalories and production of coals has decreased by 40,000 tons, Shabozov said.
He added that over the first nine months of this year, Tajikistan has produced primary aluminum 43,000 tons less than in the same period of last year.
