DUSHANBE, October 19, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Since the beginning of this year, some 4,000 Tajik nationals have opted to use the traditional version of the names, stopping imposing the Slavic suffixes “ov” and “ev” on their surnames, Minister of Justice Bakhtiyor Khudoyorov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 19.

According to him, registry offices have issued some 125,000 birth certificates and 23,356 certificates of death over the first nine months of this year.  Over the report period, 65,723 marriages have been registered in the country, the minister said.

“As far as public associations are concerned, 270 new public associations have been registered in the country in January-September this year,” said Khudoyorov, “In the same time, five public associations have been shut down following decisions by courts.”

Some 2,000 public associations now function in Tajikistan the minister added.

“Besides, under the law on licensing certain types of activities, 37 lawyers have been granted advocacy license this year,” said Khudoyorov, “Over the same nine-month period, justice bodies have transferred some 15.4 million somoni to the country’s national budget.”
