DUSHANBE, November 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon is departing for Minsk, Belarus tomorrow morning to attend a high-level meeting “Let’s Unite CIS Area” and a session of the Interstate Council of the Eurasian Economic Committee (EAEC), presidential spokesman Abdufattoh Sharifzoda said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
The International Telecommunication Union’s Regional Summit “Let’s Unite CIS Area” will take place in Minsk on November 26-27.
The event co-organizers include the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC Board), CIS Executive Committee, UN United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development, World Bank and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The heads of CIS and neighboring countries, as well as representatives of the government structures will be present at the event.
According to some media, the summit’s agenda mainly focuses on averting disparity in ICT field in the region. The summit participants will discuss issues related to building information society, introducing new services, digital television technologies, info security.
A high-level meeting “Let’s Unite CIS Area” is part of ITU global initiative “Let’s Unite World” and aims to assist establishing partnership relations between public and private sectors in order to raise investments necessary to ensure implementation of international high-level meeting’s major tasks by 2015.
“On Friday November 27, President Rahmon will take part at the session of the EAEC Interstate Council,” Sharifzoda said.
According to him, during his stay in Minsk, Emomali Rahmon is also expected to hold talks with his Belarusian counterpart, President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
