DUSHANBE, May 25. “Asia Plus” — Not a single child under 6 years of age who arrived to Russia from Tajikistan was tested positive for poliomyelitis, Chief Sanitary Doctor of Tajikistan Azam Mirzoev told the AP.

According to him, Russia is already changing its position to polio situation in Tajikistan. “Russian media reported 12 polio cases but not a single case was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Health,” he stressed.

The first polio case was recorded in Russia back on May 3 in Irkutsk district. A 9-month girl who arrived from Tajikistan was taken to Angarsk infectious disease hospital with polio symptoms.

In late April this year the World Health Organization has confirmed the outburst of poliomyelitis in Tajikistan. Due to this Russian Consumer Control Service banned import of walnuts and dried fruits from Tajikistan. Furthermore, Russian banned entrance of children under 6 years of age from Tajikistan.

According to Mr Onishenko, no polio outburst threatens Russia at the moment. Experts from the Russian Consumer Control Service are carrying out vaccination of all children arriving from Tajikistan.

According to Tajik Health Ministry, a total of 470 cases with polio symptoms were registered in the country as of today. 129 of them tested positive.
