DUSHANBE, July 23, 20201, Asia-Plus — The construction of a new international terminal at the Dushanbe airport will begin in August this year and the terminal is scheduled to be operational by September 9, 2011, the day marking the 20th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence, Rustam Kholiqov, the director general of Dushanbe International Airport, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 22, 2010.
“French companies, Alpha-Airport and Sofema Group, will build the terminal,” said Kholiqov, “Top managers of the French companies and Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov signed the schedule of substantial completion of the facility and under this document, the terminal will be completed on August 30, 2011,” Kholiqov said.
“Under the protocol, the French side is exempt from taxes; a special government’s decision on this subject has been prepared and parliament should endorse the decision until the end of this month,” noted the airport director, “I think intensive work on construction of the terminal building will start in a week.”
A total space of the international terminal will be 11,000 square meters.
We will recall that French army engineers have resurfaced the runway at the Dushanbe airport. In addition to resurfacing the runway and other areas of the Dushanbe airport, France has provided Tajikistan a long-term, low interest 20 million euro loan to fund the 27 million euro construction of the new terminal; the remaining 7 million euros are provided by Dushanbe International Airport. Specialists say the project will bring the Dushanbe airport up to international air traffic standards.
